This week we had another awesome field trip to learn the basics of filming from helicopters and airplanes. I tried to jump right in a learn as much as I could, since I hope to start filming my doco by the end of the month. Yikes.
Last week's lighting practical. This is what it takes for me to be well lit. That's why I prefer to be on the other side of the camera.

Ahh, you'll be filming out of a helicopter with your legs hanging out?! I bet that's going to be pretty awesome...and scary as shit. Did the safety briefing make you feel more comfortable? BE CAREFUL :O
"this is your pilot speaking. please keep your arms, legs and video cameras inside the helicopter at all times . . ."
When I'm filming I'll be inside the chopper with the door off and I'll just shoot out, toward the front. That way you don't get caught in the slip stream.
If the chopper is just hovering I might be able to swing my legs onto to the skis to get a cool shot. We'll see. It is kind of frightening, but I might as well go for it, who's knows when I'll get this opportunity again.
